Readers Respond - Pope - Comment by JITC

Subject: gay pride march

Dear Ms. Levinson,

In your editorial, you sign off with a quote from Franco Grillini, honorary chairman of gay rights group Arcigay:

"The real offense is the homophobia and the anti-gay prejudice which is fuelled by the Vatican hierarchy." He followed that with "The Pope is mistaken when he says homosexuality is unnatural....Who decides what is natural and what is not?" Asked Grillini, "'Objectively disordered' -- what does that mean?"

The Pope follows God's law, and it is God who decides. He tells us in the Bible:

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural,

27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

Romans 1: 24-27

The Pope has never called anyone evil, but the act itself. You yourself acknowledge that the Pope called the acts (sexual, not parts of a Broadway play) evil, and against natural law, not the people themselves.

He is not calling anyone to discriminate against gays and lesbians, he is pointing out that the act itself of homosexuality is immoral and wrong, and that public promotion of immoral lifestyles is wrong.

I pray that you will consider that when we human beings break God's laws, no amount of public opinion or legislation will ever make a wrong a right.

God says so.

I will pray for you. :-)

Pax,
Judy
